Looking for the holiday feeling

Jessica and Bastiaan recently moved to South Limburg with their 3 kids. They "emigrated" from Utrecht, to this charming square farmhouse with courtyard. They had been coming here for years, as Bastiaan's parents bought this square farmhouse 14 years ago and in 2021 they took the plunge to the south. It took no less than a year and a half to complete all the permits for the conversion of this municipal monument. Given the result, this was definitely worth the wait!

The hilly landscape, the surroundings, freedom and space gave Jessica and Bastiaan the ultimate holiday feeling. Enough reasons to move. And not unimportantly: Bastiaan's parents live in the back part of the farmhouse and did most of the renovation.

Design and choices

One thing was certain: in the spacious and elongated living room (former cowshed), a central fireplace had to provide a connection between the living room and the kitchen and serve as an eye-catcher. Other wishes included a modern style, the colour terracotta and connection to the rest of the interior including a black kitchen and steel window frames. Architect Wieke Walmink was asked to create the designs for the living room, after which the renovation could begin. The result: a contemporary modern interior, where warm colours and cosiness prevail.

Search for the right fireplace

Jessica and Bastiaan had a few requirements in mind when looking for a fireplace. It had to be a fireplace with a real fire, which gave off cosy, controlled warmth and which fitted in seamlessly with the interior in terms of appearance and size. In consultation with the architect, a three-sided wood-burning fireplace was chosen, which was to transform the living space into a cosy meeting place.

The subsequent steps went very smoothly. Bastiaan spotted a van from De Kachelsmid driving by, then visited their website and soon had an appointment set up. After comparing several three-sided wood-burning fireplaces from different brands, the choice quickly fell on the Kalfire W53/50R. Especially its sleek appearance was decisive.

The technical part was carried out by the dealer, De Kachelsmid. As real takers, the residents went to work on the finishing touches themselves. Their efforts were rewarded and the W53/50R wood fireplace now has a perfect place in the living room as a room divider. Jessica and Bastiaan are extremely satisfied with the fireplace and would not have done anything else!
